Africa Speaks 1930
This film is the first sound documentary subjecting the Dark Continent. Paul Hoefler travelled through (mostly) Congo and filmed the Pygmy, Ubangi and Massai tribes. In 14 months he travelled by motor truck and produced his renowned filmic diary. In 1931 he also published a book : "Africa Speaks: A Story of Adventure (The Chronicle of the first Trans-African Journey by Motor Truck from Mombasa on the Indian Ocean to Lagos on the Atlantic, through Central Equatorial Africa)". Hoeflers movies (he made several in africa) all suffer from the White Point of view. The Africans are all depicted as loyal to their white masters and by nature savages whose culture needs to be controlled. He later founded his own company, selling his films for mostly educational purposes.
