First Spaceship On Venus 1960
After receiving a message from Venus five astronauts set out to explore the Planet. Set in "1985" they arrive on the Venus finding nothing but ruins. The inhabitants have destroyed their planet in their frantic search for nuclear power. Now the Venusians intend to conquer the Earth.....Do they ? Based on the novel "The Astronauts" by the great polish SF writer Stanislaw Lem (Solaris), this curious SF movie shows an international cast. Directed by the East German Kurtz Meatzig a multinational cast, including Americans, was a rarity in the heydays of the cold war. The decors and sets as well as beautiful photography are beautiful and innovative, making this movie one of the best from the fifties.. Unfortunately, the original European version, running 130 minutes is no longer available. Todays version is the only 80 minutes running American version. First Spaceship on venus is a clear statement against the use of nuclear weapons and a strong message to society what might happen when science is pursued beyond the grasp of control.
