Beloved Rogue, The 1927
Cloak and dagger custome drama starring John Barrymore as the vagabond French poet Francois Villon staged in the 15th century. Conrad Veidt, known from The Cabinet of doctor Caligari makes his American debut, stars as Barrymore's counterpart the King of France. Ultimately a love story the movie tells the story of the beggar's King falling in love with a girl from the real King's court. She is predestined to marry a noble but Barrymore does not passively stand by. This partially action partially comedy movie with major ornated sets was directed by Alan Crosland, a director known today for directing the first talking feature, The Jazz Singer (1927).
